High school girls basketball: Haughton, Parkway, Plain Dealing win season openers; PCA routs Converse

The Haughton Lady Bucs, Parkway Lady Panthers and Plain Dealing Lady Lions opened the 2025-26 season with victories Tuesday night.

Haughton routed Homer 66-19 at Homer, Parkway edged Arcadia 40-39 at Arcadia and Plain Dealing defeated North Webster 56-54 in overtime in Springhill.

Elsewhere, Providence Classical Academy continued its good start with a 50-31 victory over Converse at PCA.

Airline fell to West Monroe 67-51 on the road in its opener.

At Homer, Sariah Shannon poured in 20 points to lead Haughton.

Skylar Branch and Bella Hammond, both first-team All-Parish selections last season, got their senior seasons off to good starts.

Branch scored 13 of her 16 in the first half when Haughton rolled to a 35-9 lead. Hammond scored 10 of her 15 in the first half.

Haughton is playing in the Florien tournament which begins Friday.

At Arcadia, the game featured teams that finished runner-up in their respective divisions last season.

According to a post on the LBR Basketball Facebook page, Khia Thomas led Parkway with 12 points. The Lady Panthers hit a couple of late 3-pointers to pull out the victory, according to LBR.

Parkway is hosting the Battle on the Hardwood Classic which starts Thursday.

At North Webster, the game went into overtime time tied at 44.

Brianna Newton scored eight of her 15 points in overtime. Jakayla Douglas led the Lady Lions with 31 points. She had four in overtime. Janiya Douglas and Sanaa Lyles combined for 10 in the game.

Makiyah White and North Webster led North Webster with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Plain Dealing hosts Simsboro Thursday.

At PCA, the Lady Knights jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 28-8 at the half.

Lauren Hillman hit four 4-pointers and led PCA with 18 points. Caroline Cole added 13. Rhodes Mobley and Ella Grace Richardson scored seven and six, respectively. Alex Thaxton had four.

Piper Cade led Converse (0-5) with 14. 

Providence Classical Academy (5-2) is playing in the Tioga tournament which begins Wednesday.

At West Monroe, Airline led 29-26 at the half. 

The Lady Rebels rallied and led 47-40 after three quarters. 

Airline scored the first five points of the fourth to get within two. But West Monroe went on a 15-0 run. 

Freshman Ryleigh Larry led Airline with 14 points. Nia Williams added 11 and Addison McDowell 10. Kali McKnight scored eight.

Next up for the Lady Vikings is the Battle on the Hardwood Classic.
