The Providence Classical Academy Knights gave Head Coach Jordan Shaffer his first victory Saturday. PCA defeated Broadmoor 24-4 in Baton Rouge.
It was also PCA’s first varsity victory as a member of the LHSAA.
Elsewhere, Airline split two games in the Trey Altick Classic hosted by Ouachita Christian Saturday. The Vikings fell to Prairieville 5-4 and defeated Rayne 9-0.
Benton suffered is first loss, falling to Archbishop Rummel 6-3 in the Ponchatoula tournament.
Haughton dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to defending non-select Division III state champion Sterlington in Game 3 of their series at Sterlington.
Parkway lost two games in the Altick tournament to Parkview Baptist 8-3 and Mangham 9-7.
At Broadmoor, the Knights (1-2) took advantage of 16 walks.
Boston King went 2-for-2 with three RBI. Brennan Gutman had a double and three RBi. Benton Axton had three RBI. Kellen Beale, Joe Barrish, Tanner Stinson and Brian Shoebridge had two RBI apiece.
Barrish struck out six in the four-inning game.
At the Trey Altick Classic, Airline (3-6) scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead, but Prairieville answered with five in the bottom of the inning.
Jack Henry Smith went 2-for-3. Starter Ayden Hawn allowed four hits, struck out five and walked three in 5 2/3 innings.
Leo Heng went 2-for-4 with a double against Rayne. Smith, Drake Bellew, Brock Jordan and Bo Carter all had two hits.
Heng allowed just one hit with four strikeouts and no walks in five innings.
Parkway’s Kingston Meza went 2-for-3 against Parkview Baptist. Brayden Scott had a double.
The Panthers (1-7) led Mangham 7-6 through six innings but the Dragons rallied with three in the top of the seventh.
Colby Donaldson went 3-for-3. Dallas Loche and Jax Thomson both went 2-for-4 with one double each. Jax Thomson had two RBI. Brylan Washington had three RBI.
At Sterlington, the Panthers led 1-0 through six innings. Haughton (5-4) scored three in the top of the seventh but Sterlington won it with three in the bottom of the inning.
Ashton Neighbors allowed three earned runs, struck out six and walked one in six innings. CT Woodard went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Russ Barrett had a double.
At the Ponchatoula tournament, Benton (8-1) had just three hits. Harrison Miller had a double.
