The Plain Dealing Lady Lions were the only team to win on what was mostly a tough Tuesday night for parish teams against some strong competition.
Plain Dealing defeated Southwood 24-6 at Southwood.
Benton fell to Calvary Baptist 12-2 in five innings at Benton. The Lady Cavs have won five straight state championships.
Haughton lost to West Ouachita, a non-select Division I quarterfinalist last year, 12-2 in six innings in West Monroe.
Elsewhere, Parkway fell to St. Mary’s 7-4 in Natchitoches and Bossier dropped a home doubleheader to Booker T. Washington 10-7 and 10-2.
At Southwood, the Lady Lions took advantage of 17 walks. Sophie Green had a triple and two RBI. Emory Young had a double and three RBI. Nicole Adoremus had four RBI.
Ravin West, Ryelin West, Alainah Brooks and Mckenna Fisk had two RBI apiece.
Plain Dealing (3-0) hosts Lincoln Prep Thursday at 6.
At Benton, the game was tied at 2 after three innings. Calvary put seven on the board in the fourth and added three in the fifth.
Makaylyn Lawrence went 2-for-3 with a double. Olivia Livers had a double. Calvary’s Kynzee Anderson, a Georgia signee who was selected Miss Softball by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association last year, allowed three hits, struck out nine and walked one.
Benton (1-3) is scheduled to play in the St. Charles Catholic tournament Friday and Saturday. Calvary improved to 5-0.
At West Ouachita, the Lady Bucs had five hits off West Ouachita’s Ella Hudson. Avery Smith had a triple and Skylar Hogan had a double.
Haughton (3-2) visits Cedar Creek Thursday at 6. The game was West Ouachita’s season opener.
At St. Mary’s, Parkway took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth. But the Lady Eagles answered with three in the bottom of then inning then scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
The Lady Panthers had six hits. Macee Thompson went 2-for-4. Izzy Rodriguez had a double.
Parkway (3-2) hosts Caddo Magnet Thursday at 6. St. Mary’s improved to 1-1.
