Members of the Bossier City Lions Club heard from a representative of Red River Credit Union during their weekly meeting Thursday, March 5, as the organization highlighted its growing efforts to support nonprofit programs across the region.

Guest speaker Madeline Hawk, community giving manager for Red River Credit Union, spoke to club members about the mission and impact of the credit union’s charitable arm, the RRCU Gives Foundation. The foundation works to strengthen communities through grants and philanthropic initiatives that support nonprofits addressing critical needs.

Hawk explained that the RRCU Gives Foundation focuses its giving efforts on three key areas: housing stability, hunger relief and financial education. Through its annual grant program and additional funding initiatives, the foundation provides resources to nonprofit organizations working to improve quality of life across the communities served by the credit union.

Recently, the foundation awarded $50,000 in grant funding to 22 nonprofit agencies across four states, supporting programs that provide essential services and assistance to families in need.

“RRCU Gives strengthens our region by providing meaningful financial support to nonprofits addressing hunger, housing and financial education,” Hawk told the group. “Through our annual grant awards and major funding initiatives, we help local organizations grow, thrive and create lasting change in the communities they serve.”

Since 2024, the foundation has awarded grants to 42 nonprofit organizations, helping agencies expand their reach and enhance services for residents facing economic and social challenges.

Hawk noted that many of the organizations receiving grants have shared how the funding has helped expand their outreach and impact. Statements from several recipients are featured on the RRCU Gives website.

In a statement provided to the foundation and published on its website, Books from Bobby, Inc. said the funding helped expand its services to families in need.

“With this support, we increased our monthly reach toward 130 families, expanded the amount of fresh and nutritious food in each box, and improved pantry operations through essential supplies and transportation funding.”

Another grant recipient, Turning Point of South Arkansas, also shared feedback with the foundation about the impact of the support.

“With this support, we were able to respond more effectively to those facing crisis situations, build stronger community partnerships, and continue offering education and outreach that promote safety and awareness.”

Hawk also discussed the foundation’s long-term community investment strategy, including the creation of a Donor Advised Fund through the Cornerstone Foundation, which will help expand philanthropic opportunities and strengthen partnerships with nonprofit organizations.

The RRCU Gives grant program accepts applications each June, with grant recipients typically announced in August.

The Bossier City Lions Club regularly invites community leaders, nonprofit representatives and business professionals to speak during its weekly meetings, providing members with insight into local initiatives and community programs impacting the region.
