High school softball: Airline edges St. Frederick

The Airline Lady Vikings defeated St. Frederick 7-6 in nine innings Monday at Airline.

Elsewhere, Haughton fell to Logansport 7-6 in eight at Logansport, Parkway lost to Winnfield 10-2 at Winnfield and Plain Dealing fell to Mansfield 8-6 at Plain Dealing.

At Airline, the game went into extra innings tied at 6. After a scoreless eighth, leadoff batter Tanesciya Thomas reached on a dropped third strike and advanced to second on a single by Abby Hutson. Thomas moved to third on a groundout by Tatiana Frese.

Taylor Smith drew a walk, loading the bases. Mauriana Holcomb then drew a walk and Thomas scored the winning run.

Airline had six hits. Madalynn Shortridge had two. Thomas had a double.

Smith struck out 18 and walked five.

Airline (14-10) visits Haughton Tuesday at 6. St. Frederick dropped to 17-10.

At Logansport, Haughton took a 6-4 lead with a run in the top of the seventh. The Lady Tigers tied it with two in the bottom of the inning and won it in the eighth on a home run by Kennedi Smith.

Haughton (14-15) had nine hits. Brooklyn Ezernack went 2-for-3 with a triple. Presley Yerby went 2-for-4. Avery Smith and Skylar Hogan had one double each. Clara Shaffer had a hit and drew two walks.

Logansport improved to 19-9.

At Winnfield, Katie Giovengo went 3-for-4. Izzy Rodriguez went 2-for-3. Zoey Horn hit a home run.

Parkway (9-14) visits Huntington Tuesday at 6. Winnfield improved to 20-7.

At Plain Dealing, Sanaa Lyles went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Brianna Newton had two RBI.

Plain Dealing (14-5) hosts North Webster Tuesday at 5:30. Mansfield improved to 6-12.
