Community members, civic leaders and business professionals gathered Tuesday, April 21, at the Bossier City Civic Center for a Prayer Lunch hosted by Bossier City Mayor Tommy Chandler, offering a time of fellowship, reflection and unified prayer for the city.
Before the meal began, Gevan Spinney, pastor of First Baptist Church Haughton, led those in attendance in prayer, lifting up community members, local leadership, first responders and families across Bossier City.
Guests shared a meal sponsored by local businessman Mike Salter, while music provided by Jimmy Wooten helped set a tone of worship and reverence throughout the luncheon.
The featured speaker, Matt Kinney, delivered a message rooted in faith, service and leadership. Kinney, who serves as men’s ministry leader at First Baptist Church Haughton, encouraged attendees to remain steadfast in their commitment to serving others and leading with integrity.
Drawing from scripture and personal experience, Kinney spoke about the importance of trusting in God’s guidance, noting that strong communities are built when individuals lead with humility, compassion and a servant’s heart.
Kinney retired as a captain with the Bossier City Fire Department and continues to serve as chaplain for both the department and the Professional Firefighters of Louisiana. A graduate of Haughton High School, he also holds an associate degree in theology and biblical studies from Liberty University. He is a father of three and grandfather of two, with another grandchild expected soon.
Throughout the event, attendees joined together in prayer for local leaders, first responders, educators and families, asking for wisdom, protection and continued blessings over the city. The gathering reflected a shared belief that faith and community partnership play a vital role in addressing challenges and building a stronger future.
Organizers said the luncheon served as a reminder of the power of unity and prayer, as participants came together to lift up Bossier City and its leaders, seeking guidance and strength for the days ahead.
