The Bossier Parish Police Jury highlighted two upcoming events during its regular agenda meeting Wednesday, Aug. 19, giving residents opportunities to learn about disaster preparedness and a major economic development project planned for the region.

The first event, the Bossier Parish Disability Disaster Preparedness Workshop, will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bossier Central Library Complex, located at 7204 Hutchison Drive in Bossier City.

The workshop is designed to help individuals with disabilities, along with their caregivers, family members, service providers and emergency management partners, prepare for emergencies before a disaster occurs.

Topics will include creating a personal emergency plan, understanding weather alerts and emergency notifications, sheltering options, pet preparedness and disability-specific emergency planning. Information about local resources available throughout Bossier Parish will also be provided.

Those attending will have an opportunity to connect with organizations and agencies that offer support services and disaster-related assistance.

The Police Jury also shared information about an upcoming Amazon Open House, scheduled for Aug. 25 at the Shreveport Convention Center.

The event will give residents an opportunity to learn more about Amazon’s proposed data center developments in Bossier and Caddo parishes. Representatives connected with the project are expected to be available to answer questions and provide information about the proposed facilities and their potential impact on Northwest Louisiana.

The projects are expected to bring significant investment and support long-term economic growth in the region.

With one event focused on helping residents prepare for emergencies and the other providing information about a project that could impact the future of the region, Police Jury officials encouraged residents to stay involved and informed about developments taking place throughout Bossier Parish.
