Bossier Parish Community College nursing student Katelynn Ellis has been named a 2026 Chime Workforce Scholar, joining 200 students nationwide recognized for their academic achievement and pursuit of career-focused education.

The Chime Workforce Scholarship, funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, provides each scholar with $1,000 to help cover educational expenses while completing a certificate or associate degree that prepares them to enter the workforce in a high-demand field.

“Receiving this scholarship means so much to me because it is more than just financial assistance; it is an encouragement that I am on the right path,” Ellis said. “Nursing school has been one of the most challenging things I have ever taken on while balancing school, family, being a mother and serving in ministry. This reminds me that I am not alone and that others see potential in me and have chosen to invest in my education. I am thankful for the encouragement and support this scholarship provides as I continue my nursing journey.”

Ellis is pursuing an Associate Degree in Nursing and expects to graduate in May 2027. After graduation, she plans to begin working as a registered nurse. Her goal is to become a labor and delivery nurse and eventually return to school to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and potentially a Master of Science in Nursing.

“We are incredibly proud of Katelynn and this well-deserved recognition,” said Dr. Rick Bateman Jr., Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College. “Her dedication and commitment to preparing for a successful career represent exactly what we hope to see in our graduates. This scholarship is an investment in her future and the future of our community.”

“It is always rewarding to see our students recognized for their hard work and commitment to their future,” said Michelle Triplet, BPCC’s Phi Theta Kappa advisor. “Katelynn has demonstrated that commitment, and being selected as a Chime Workforce Scholar is an exciting accomplishment as she continues working toward her career goals.”

The Chime Workforce Scholarship supports students preparing for high-demand careers that strengthen their communities and local economies. By helping students complete their education and earn workforce credentials, the program helps create a stronger pipeline of skilled workers in fields where they are needed most.

“At the Chime Scholars Foundation, we believe that career and technical education opens doors to financial progress and long-term opportunity. We’re proud to support students who are working hard to gain in-demand skills and build better futures for themselves and their families,” said Jeni Izuel, president of the Chime Scholars Foundation.
