The Airline Lady Vikings and Benton Lady Tigers came close to pulling upsets in the first round of the girls basketball state playoffs Thursday night, but neither was able to come out on top.
In Class 5A, the No. 26 seed Lady Vikings fell to No. 7 Ponchatoula 52-48 in Ponchatoula. In Class 4A, the No. 19 seed Lady Tigers fell to No. 14 West Ouachita 50-40 in West Monroe.
Airline, which finished tied for second in Class 5A, finished the season 17-13. Benton was 20-12.
