Airline left-handed pitcher Kyle Backofen signed with Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday during a ceremony in the school library.
Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period.
Backofen was named the Outstanding Pitcher on the All-District 1-5A team last spring. He was also a first-team All-Parish selection.
Backofen went 6-1 with a 2.15 ERA for the district champion Vikings. He had 65 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings.
