Airline repeats as Regional wrestling champion


The Airline Vikings successfully defended their Northwest Louisiana Regional wrestling title Saturday in dominating fashion.

The Vikings rolled up 223 points to 136.5 for runner-up Benton in the tournament at BPCC. Haughton finished fifth with 85.5, Parkway eighth with 75 and Bossier ninth with 52.

Six Vikings won regional championships — Joshua Partin (120-pound division), Scott Prouty (132), Tony Lococo (138), Christian Walden (145), Keegan Gilligan (182) and Eric McGuire (220).

Four Benton wrestlers won titles — Hayden Shankle (113), Layton Spears (160), Jordan White (170) and Chauncey Taylor (285).

Parkway’s Zac Funderburk won the 152-pound division.

Haughton’s Dylan Holliday (120), Airline’s Juju Jones (126), Parkway’s Ryan Huckaby (138), Benton’s Jordan Myles (152), Airline’s DJ Evans (160) and Airline’s Tyler Almond (195) all finished runner-up in their respective divisions.

The Bossier Parish Championships meet is Saturday at Airline.
