Airline wrestlers fared well in the Texas Outlaw meet Friday and Saturday in Allen, Texas.
Airline was the only team from Louisiana in the 31-team meet. Most of the teams were from Texas but there were also representatives from Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Javarious “JuJu” Jones (126 pounds) and Christian Walden (160) finished runner-up in their respective weight classes.
Jones went 4-0 in his pool and then defeated Andre Steinjann of Southlake Carroll (Texas) 3-0 in the quarterfinals and Bailer Thomason of Canyon Randall (Texas) 2-1 in the semifinals. He fell to Dalton Duffield of Westmoore (Okla.) 6-2 in the championship match. Jones is 32-3 on the season.
Walden also went 4-0 in his pool. He won his quarterfinal and semifinal matches by fall, defeating Deatrick Bledsoe of Allen White (Texas) in 1:12 and Jack Duval of Southlake Carroll in 3:02. Walden lost to Sammy Cokeley of St. James Academy (Kansas) by fall in 5:05 in the finals. It was his first loss of the season. Walden is 32-1.
Keegan Gilligan finished fourth in the 182-pound class and Joshua Partin was seventh in the 132-pound class.
Other Airline results: Dakota Brace (14th, 106), Thomas Barringer (15th, 120), Kyle Barringer (14th, 138), Darrell Evans (13th, 170), Cameron Davis (18th, 220), Courtney Turner (18th, 285).
Airline finished 12th in the team standings with 224.5 points. Allen High’s Blue team won with 557.
The LHSAA Wrestling championships are Feb. 12-13 at the CenturyLink Center.
