Carter Jurkovich, a sophomore-to-be at Airline, is tied for 12th after the second round of the Louisiana Golf Association Junior Amateur tournament at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria.
Jurkovich led by a stroke after shooting a 4-under 68 in Wednesday’s first round. His second-round 77 puts him at 1-over 145 going into Friday’s final round. Brady Bennett of Zachary, who shot a second-round 68, leads at 7 under, one stroke head of Slidell’s Zachary Barrios.
In the first round Jurkovich shot a 1 under on the first nine. He played brilliantly on the back nine, with four birdies and one bogey, his only one of the day. He closed the day with a 2 on the difficult par-3 18th, the only birdie of the day on the hole.
Two bad holes hurt Jurkovich in the second round. He double-bogeyed the the 361-yard, par-4 5th hole and tripled the 537-yard, par-5 7th. He finished the front nine strong though with birdies at 8 and 9. He had two other bogeys on the round.
Benton’s Colton Ryan shot a second round 74 and is at 6 over 150, tied for 26th. Ryan had three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey.
The top player from North Louisiana going into the final round is Shreveport’s Marshall Laborde. Laborde shot a 67 Thursday, the low round of the day, and is tied for fifth at 2 under.
Bossier City’s Eli Hill won the 36-hole 10-11 age division with his second straight 71 for a 2-under 142. Bossier City’s Ethan Dial finished third at 4 over after a second-round 73.
