The Bossier Phillies finished runner-up in the American Legion Baseball Mid-South Regional Saturday in Gastonia, N.C.
Bossier forced a winner-take-all game for the title with a 6-1 victory over Tupelo, Miss. Bit the Phillies, who played four games in two days, fell 16-1. Tupelo advanced to the World Series Aug. 13-18 in Shelby, N.C.
Bossier finished another outstanding summer 22-4.
Bossier struggled early at the plate in the first game. But with former Benton star Kade Bryant on the mound, the Phillies led 1-0 through five innings.
Bossier then scored three in the top of the sixth and two in the seventh.
Bryant pitched a complete game. He scattered seven hits, struck out eight and walked one.
Former Benton standouts Griffin Sibley and Brody Turnipseed both went 2-for-4. Sibley had a double and two RBI. Turnipseed had one RBI.
Former Northwood standout Landon Martin also went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Former Benton star Kannon Greer had an RBI-double.
Tupelo jumped out to a 6-1 lead through two innings in the deciding game.
Turnipseed and former Glenbrook star Jackson Waller both went 2-for-3.
