The Bossier Phillies rallied twice but came up just short in their first game in the American Legion World Series, falling to Asheville, N.C., 7-6, Friday night in Shelby, N.C.
Bossier faces Greece, N.Y., at 9 a.m. Saturday in the four-team Stripes Division. Greece fell to Chesapeake, Va., 9-2 in its first game.
Bossier trailed 4-0 through four innings. But the Phillies scored three in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth to tie it.
TBossier got two outs in the bottom of the inning on a pickoff at first and a groundout.
But Asheville put three on the board after that thanks to two walks, a single, double and an error to take a 7-4 lead.
Cole Snell led off the top of the seventh with a double and scored on a single by Hudson Brignac to cut the lead to two.
Brignac advanced to second on an error and scored on a one-out single by Brock Laird, making it a one-run game.
But that was as close as the Phillies got.
Bossier had eight hits to Asheville’s 12.
Britian Pipes and Snell had doubles. Brignac, Laird, Easton Sanders, Case Jorden, Kade Bryant and Jackson Jones all had singles.
