American Rose Center turns into a winter wonder

Each holiday season, the Gardens of the American Rose Center, located at 8877 Jefferson Paige Road in Shreveport, are transformed into Christmas in Roseland.

A winter wonderland featuring thousands of twinkling lights, dozens of lighted displays, giant “Christmas Cards to the Community,” will include nightly live entertainment, photos with Santa, rides on the Roseland Express Train and more.

This year will mark the 30th annual Christmas in Roseland celebration, which will open to the public at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 and run through Sunday, Dec. 22.

Christmas in Roseland will be open each Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, 5:30-10 p.m., with the final car being admitted at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person or $20 per carload, with special group rates available for minibus and charter bus groups.

New for 2013, there will be a juried art show featuring the work of local art students displayed in the Klima Education and Visitor Center on the grounds of the Gardens of the American Rose Center. Live entertainment for 2013 will include regional choirs, gospel performers, vocal ensembles and more.

Tickets to ride the Roseland Express Train are $5. Photos with Santa will be available at a cost of $10 per photo. Santa will be on-hand to take photos each night, 6-9 p.m. No personal photos with Santa will be allowed. Tickets for the Roseland Express Train and photos with Santa may be purchased in the Gift Shop. Please note that Christmas in Roseland is a walking event only; carts are not available.

The spectacular Gardens of the American Rose Center are located on a 118-acre wooded tract near Shreveport, Louisiana. The gardens are home to the national headquarters of the American Rose Society and the nation’s largest park dedicated to roses. The American Rose Center features more than 65 individual rose gardens and 20,000 rosebushes, with a variety of companion plants, sculptures and fountains, including the beautiful Dudley Watkins Reflection Pool.
