‘American Sniper’ widow to speak at First Bossier

First Baptist Bossier will be honoring heroes during two special services Aug. 30.

Active military, police, fire, and first responders and their families are invited to attend the 9:15 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. service, both featuring guest speaker Taya Kyle, widow of US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Brad Jurkovich, Senior Pastor at First Bossier, said it’s much more than a day to say ‘thank you.’TayaKylePhoto

“We want to make sure it is abundantly clear to all those on the front lines and their families know how much we value them,” Jurkovich said. “They serve people all the time. We want to demonstrate that same love and sacrifice as a church family.”

Only active military, police, fire, and first responders are invited to attend a breakfast reception at 8:15 a.m. or stay for lunch at noon. Services, though, are free and open to the public.

Jurkovich said the message Taya Kyle has to share is one that will encourage, inspire and affirm the Christian faith.

“The story of Chris Kyle is known world-wide,” he explained. “It’s very, very personal and real when it comes to his sacrifice and service to America. Taya’s sacrifice, too, is very real and what she’s had to go through is something all military and first responder families can relate to.”

Taya Kyle is author of the New York Times bestselling book, American Wife. According to the Washington Post, the book details “the life of a family that has been under a microscope” ever since Chris Kyle, credited as the most deadly sniper in U.S. military history, published a memoir in 2012. The book was turned into the blockbuster movie “American Sniper.”

Chris Kyle was murdered at a Texas shooting range Feb. 2, 2013. Taya has become a well-respected figure for military and first responder families and American women.

Her book, released in May 2015, has given her a platform to not only tell her story, while also teaching on grief, faith and love, but to share Chris’ legacy through the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation. Their goal is to provide meaningful, interactive experiences to service members, first responders and their families in order to enrich family relationships. Taya and a dedicated team are working to ensure Chris’ vision, desire and legacy to the country he served carries on now and into the future.

First Bossier welcomes community heroes and their families from the surrounding area, not just those living in Bossier Parish. For more information, visit www.firstbossier.com.
