Annual recycling event planned for Earth Day, April 22

In an effort to be Green and celebrate Earth Day, Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, Cumulus Broadcasting and NBC 6 are hosting the 3rd Annual Shred –It/Recycling Event on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

Now is the time for Spring Cleaning! Load-up all of the paper, cardboard, batteries, light bulbs, old computers, televisions, cell phones, clothing, furniture and appliances you have cluttering up your home and drive through Harrah’s parking lot and dump it! The Shred-It Recycling event is from 4:30pm until 6:30pm. Shred-It, Goodwill Industries, Gateway Tire, Tri-State Battery and Pratt Industries will be on site collecting items to be disposed of or recycled properly. This service is FREE!

The Shred It staff along with Bossier City Police Detectives will be on-site during the event to explain or answer any questions about shredding documents. Shredding is one of the safest methods of disposal available for information sensitive documents and protecting against Identity Theft.  Each vehicle is allowed to bring up to five boxes of paper to be shredded.

“At Harrah’s Louisiana Downs we recognize the importance of being responsible stewards of the environment, and we’re committed to environmental sustainability and energy conservation. It is great that our partners have this same interest, not only on Earth Day but every day. Reducing your carbon foot print can be as simple as recycling paper and we are excited to give citizens a chance to make a difference for the environment,” said Harrah’s General Manager, Mike Rich.

“Cumulus Broadcasting has joined the fight for Recycling. On average, one person creates more than four pounds of trash every day. 75% of waste is recyclable but we only recycle about 30%. We have to start now making a difference. Cumulus is partnering with Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, and NBC 6 to make sure we are doing a part. The Shred-It Recycling event will not only help toward our recycling cause but will assist in the fight against Identity Theft. Cumulus is proud to have a part in helping clean up Shreveport-Bossier,” said Cumulus Vice President and Market Manager, Brandon Beard.

Mark McKay, General Manager of KTAL, said “NBC 6 is very proud to once again be a partner of the premier recycling awareness event in the Ark-La-Tex.  Hundreds of people come every year to recycle their items.  We’re happy to work with Harrah’s in making it happen.”

The Shred-it/Recycling Event is FREE and for everyone! The event is from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
