Armed robbery suspect captured


Bossier City police arrested a Shreveport man for attempted armed robbery Wednesday just moments after he tried to rob a 69-year old woman while she sat in her car in a shopping center parking lot.

Marcus J. Smith, 41, of Shreveport was arrested on a charge of attempted armed robbery with a firearm. The victim tells police she had just got into her car in the Walmart parking lot in the 2500 block of Airline Drive after unloaded her shopping bags when Smith opened the front passenger door and jumped into the front seat.

Smith then got out of the car and fled the scene on foot without taking anything after the victim told him she had no money and began sounding the car’s horn. The victim was not injured but very shaken up over the ordeal. The incident happened at approximately 3:10 p.m.

Police were called to the scene and within minutes had located Smith outside the Ryan Restaurant in the 2400 block of Airline Drive. He was taken into custody and booked into the Bossier City Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
