Barksdale Air Force Base will kick off Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM) with city officials and the local community for a proclamation signing at Hoban Hall April 1, 2022 at 8 a.m., followed by a 5k color run.
The goal of SAAPM is to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities on how to prevent sexual violence.
Civic leaders signing the proclamation include 2nd Bomb Wing Commander Col. Scott Weyermuller; Bossier City Mayor, Honorable Tommy Chandler; and 307th Bomb Wing Commander Col. Steven Kirkpatrick. Also in attendance are representatives from local community institutions Bossier Parish Community College, Louisiana State University (LSU) Health, LSU Shreveport, Centenary College, Project Celebration Inc., and Southern University Shreveport.
The 5k color run will begin right after Weyermuller’s closing remarks.
Additional events happening throughout the month of April in support of SAAPM include a self-defense course, painting with a twist, and an event by Take Back the Night, which is an international event and non-profit organization with the mission of ending sexual, relationship, and domestic violence in all forms. Hundreds of events are held in over 30 countries annually.
