Barksdale Air Force Base is inviting members of the Shreveport-Bossier City community to become licensed Family Child Care (FCC) providers in support of military families and mission readiness.
The FCC Provider Program enables individuals who live within 30 miles of Barksdale AFB to open their own in-home childcare businesses serving military families stationed at Barksdale. The program offers extensive support, financial incentives, and professional development, while helping solve one of the biggest challenges facing service members: access to quality, affordable childcare.
“Childcare availability directly affects mission readiness and quality of life of our force,” said Col. Michael Maginness, 2d Bomb Wing commander, “Reliable, competent, and qualified childcare reduces stress on the Airmen and their family and allows our children to continue to thrive while their parents perform our nation’s most critical missions. This is an incredible opportunity for qualified caregivers in the community to earn a paycheck while supporting our nation’s number one mission here at Barksdale AFB.”
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, up-to-date immunizations for all household members and complete background checks and training. Homes must pass fire, safety, and health inspections. Providers are also required to carry liability insurance, which is reimbursable through the program.
Once licensed, providers may care for up to six children and can earn over $60,000 annually. Additional benefits include access to business resources, USDA food program participation, incentive pay, and weekly subsidies for their own children. The program is open to both military and non-military individuals and living on base is not required.
