The Airline Vikings completed a District 1-5A sweep of Parkway with an 8-0 victory Saturday at Airline.
In a non-district game between parish rivals, Haughton knocked off Benton 4-1 at Haughton.
Airline, ranked No. 8 in the Louisiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 5A poll, improved to 17-4 overall and 3-1 in 1-5A. The Vikings won the first game in the series 2-1 Thursday at Parkway.
Byrd, which defeated Southwood 17-2 Saturday, leads at 6-0. Captan Shreve (13-10, 4-2), which lost to Evangel 7-4, is third followed by Evangel (6-16, 2-4), Haughton (12-9, 1-3), Southwood (7-10, 1-3) and Parkway (7-13, 1-5).
At Airline, Vikings starter Cameron Taylor allowed just two hits in six innings and struck out eight to improve to 4-0. Peyton Davis went 4-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBI. Austin Zickefoose had two hits, including a double, and two RBI.
Amani Larry had a double for Parkway.
At Haughton, the Bucs got solid pitching performances from starter Andrew Sewell and reliever Nick Heckman in the victory.
Sewell allowed three hits and no earned runs in three innings of work. Heckman allowed three hits and no earned runs in four innings.
Reid Wilson led the Bucs at the plate, going 3-for-3. Mason Simmons had two hits. Sewell had an RBI single and brought home another run with a sacrifice fly.
Benton’s Taylor Ward went 2-for-3 with a double. Wade Grubbs had two hits. Jackson Rutledge got off to a shaky start but settled down and struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed two earned runs.
