Andrew Lowe scattered six hits and struck out eight as the Airline Vikings defeated Alexandria Senior High 7-1 in the Sulphur baseball tournament Thursday night.
The Haughton Bucs almost pulled off a major upset in the tournament, falling to nationally ranked and undefeated Sulphur 5-4. Parkway got a solid pitching performance from Caleb Stock but the Panthers hurt themselves with five errors in a 4-2 loss to Ouachita Christian.
Airline’s Adam Armstrong went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI against ASH. Peyton Davis and Jacob James had two hits each. Cameron Taylor and Ryan Phillips had doubles.
Haughton’s Jonthan Plant had a two-run homer against Sulphur, which improved to 14-0 and is ranked No. 1 in the 5A in the state coaches’ poll. Andrew Sewell had an RBI.
Plant’s homer tied the game at 3 in the top of the fifth. The Tors answered with two of their own in he bottom of the inning before the Bucs got within one in the top of the sixth.
Haughton got a two-out single from Kirkland Seals in the seventh but couldn’t advance him.
Parkway’s Stock allowed four hits and struck out four against Ouachita Christian. The Panthers managed just three hits.
