Baseball: Airline knocks off Benton


The Airline Vikings cut short a seventh-inning Benton rally in a 7-4 non-district baseball victory over the Tigers on Monday at Airline.

Airline built a 7-1 lead through six innings only to see Benton score three times in the seventh. The Vikings finally closed the game out when second baseman Jonathan Brandon caught Sam Simmons’ line drive with runners at first and second.

Airline’s Josh James went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Jarrett Bamburg had two hits and two RBI. Peyton Davis went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Starter Cameron Parikh (3-0) got the win. He allowed one hit and struck out three in three innings.

Airline scored four runs in the bottom of the third. Hayden Waxley and Brandon walked to lead off the inning. They advanced to second and third on Cameron Taylor’s sacrifice. Davis was intentionally walked to load the bases.

Bamburg scored Waxley and Brandon with a single to center field. With two outs, James brought home Davis and Bamburg with a double to left field.
