Baseball: Airline wins twice in Sulphur tournament

The Airline Vikings won two games in the Sulphur tournament Saturday, defeating Vandebilt Catholic 6-4 and Sulphur 2-0.

Haughton split games in the Sulphur tournament and Parkway lost twice. The Bucs defeated Alexandria Senior High 7-3 and lost to Sam Houston 8-0. Parkway fell to Florien 6-4 and ASH 9-2.

Benton split games in the St. Michael tournament. The Tigers lost to Parkview Baptist 9-3 and then rallied from a 6-0 deficit after two innings to defeat St. Amant 7-6.

Airline’s Cameron Taylor pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts against Sulphur. He also went 2-for-3.

Austin Zickefoose drove home both runs with a double in the top of the sixth. Cameron Parikh went 2-for-3.

Hayden Waxley went 3-for-5 against Vandebilt Catholic. Zickefoose went 2-for-4, including a game-tying home run in the top of the sixth.

Parikh had three hits, including a double. Ryan Lawhorne got the win. He allowed one hit in three innings of relief.

Tyler Davis went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Haughton’s win over ASH. Reid Wilson and Andrew Sewell also had doubles.

Starter Nick Heckman got the win. He allowed five hits and struck out five in 5 2/3 innings.

Davis and Sam Herren had Haughton’s only hits against Sam Houston.

Seven Benton players had hits against St. Amant. Peyton Long and Cody Norris had doubles.

The Tigers had just four hits against Parkview Baptist. Garrett Hable had a double. Turner Toms turned in a strong performance on the mound in relief. He allowed just four hits and no earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. Benton had five errors in the game.

Caleb Reese went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Parkway’s loss to Florien. Eric Williams had double. Ryan Black and Caleb Reese had doubles in the loss to ASH.
