Baseball: Benton sweeps Fair Park, improves to 8-1 in 1-4A


The Benton Tigers swept the Fair Park Indians 15-0 and 16-1 in a District 1-4A baseball doubleheader Tuesday at Benton.

The first game last three innings and the second four. Benton improved to 21-8 overall and 8-1 in District 1-4A. The Tigers lead North DeSoto by a half-game. The Griffins’ game against Minden was rained out.

Cameron Horton went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBI in Game 1. Tanner Craft had two doubles and three RBI. Tyler Stephens went 2-for-3. Jake Norris had a two-RBI double. Jaret Gill also had a double. Josh Scherer had two RBI.

Aaron Thompson allowed one hit and struck out eight.

Gill and Austin Beck had doubles in the second game. Clayton Festavan had three RBI. Craft, Beck and Gill had two RBI apiece. Jackson Rutledge allowed one hit and struck out eight.

The Tigers have three district games left. They visit Northwood Thursday at 6 and Loyola Saturday at 2. If the Tigers win those and North DeSoto keeps winning, the Tigers and Griffins will play for the 1-4A title on Thursday, April 23, at North DeSoto.
