Basketball: Former Parkway star Mikaylah Williams a member of Team USA competing in FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Cup in Poland next week

Former Parkway and current LSU star Mikaylah Williams is a member of the USA Women’s  National Team that will compete in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup next week in Warsaw, Poland.

Twenty teams will compete for the title. The teams are divided into four groups. Every country will face each team in their respective group during pool play from Monday to Thursday. 

The knockout rounds will take place from Friday to Sunday and feature the top four teams from each group, seeded according to their performance in pool play.

The top-ranked team from each group will automatically earn a bid to the quarterfinal round. 

The USA, No. 7 in the overall standings, is in Pool B with No. 2 Spain, No. 10 Mongolia, No. 13 Hungary and No. 16?Australia. The USA opens play against Hungary on Tuesday.

Williams will be a senior at LSU this fall. She is a two-time first-team All-SEC selection.

Williams was a McDonald’s All-American at Parkway and helped the Lady Panthers win the non-select Division I state championship her senior season of 2022-23.

She has won three 3×3 gold medals with USA Basketball (2023 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup, 2022 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup, 2021 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup). 

Williams’ LSU teammate MiLaysia Fulwiley is also on the 3×3 National Team. The other members are South Carolina’s Joyce Edwards and Oklahoma’s Sahara Williams.

The foursome recently competed in the FIBA Women’s Series and won events in Manila and Chengdu.

Mikaylah and Sahara both competed in the World Cup last year.

The Netherlands is the defending champion.
