BCPD advises public to be aware of IRS telephone scam

The Bossier City Police Department wants the public to be aware of a scam that’s been ringing the phones of many Bossier City residents as of late.

Several people have contacted Bossier City police about automated phone calls they have received claiming that the Internal Revenue Service has filed a lawsuit against them and to call a telephone number for more information. Detectives say it’s a scam and advise anyone who receives these calls not to call back.

These types of scams typically are designed to scare people into calling the number which usually connects to crooks in a foreign country who ask for personal information like social security numbers, bank account information and other personal data.

The police department recommends that anyone who receives this type of call to disregard it and to advise friends and family members, particularly the elderly, to do the same.
