BCPD investigating fatal crash

bossier city policeBossier City police are investigating an overnight crash that took the life of a Shreveport man.

The crash happened at approximately 11:45 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2014 at the intersection of Barksdale Boulevard and Sligo Road when a Chevrolet 1500 extended cab pickup truck that was traveling west on Sligo Road collided with a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck traveling northbound on Barksdale Boulevard.

The driver of the Chevy 1500, 23-year old Charles Dennis Long Jr. of Shreveport, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected.

His three passengers, all of whom were wearing seatbelts, were taken to University Health in Shreveport by Bossier City Fire Department personnel with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. They are identified as 21-year old Jaymon Canizaro of Shreveport, 20-year old Nicole Ward of Bossier City and 19-year old Samantha Ward of Bossier City. Alcohol use on the part of Long is suspected and toxicology results are pending.

The driver of the Avalanche, 17-year old Haley Renae Candella of Elm Grove, also received injuries that are not believed to be life threatening and was taken to Willis Knighton-Pierremont.

The crash remains under investigation.
