Bossier City police arrested a pair of burglary suspects early this morning after they caught them stealing thousands of dollars worth of landscaping equipment from a local school.
Jeffery Dewayne Darnell, 47, and Daren Barrett Butler, 43, both of Shreveport face burglary and resisting charges after Bossier City police responded to a burglary alarm at Cope Middle School in the 4800 block of Shed Road just before 4 a.m.
When officers arrived they saw two men, later identified as Darnell and Butler, removing a riding mower from a storage shed behind the school. Upon noticing the officers Darnell and Butler took off running in an attempt to escape. However, officers quickly caught up with them following a brief foot pursuit.
In the course of their investigation, officers located Butler’s pickup truck nearby with multiple pieces of landscaping equipment in the bed including grass trimmers, blowers and gas cans all of which were later determined to have been taken from the school.
Darnell and Butler were booked into the Bossier City Jail and subsequently transferred to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility. Bond has not yet been. All of the stolen property was returned.
