BCPD: Officers receive disciplinary action following Police Juror incident

A Bossier City Police Department internal affairs investigation into an incident last month involving a member of the Bossier Parish Police Jury has resulted in department personnel receiving disciplinary action.

Rick Avery, Bossier Parish Police Juror, Dist. 6

The incident in question occurred on the evening of April 10, 2016 when Bossier Parish Police Jury member Rick Avery was arrested by Bossier City Police for DWI but was not booked into the Bossier City Jail per department policy.

Upon being notified of the incident Chief of Police Shane McWilliams subsequently ordered an investigation be conducted by the BCPD’s Internal Affairs Division into how the officers involved handled the incident.

Following the investigation it was determined that officers failed to follow proper policy and procedure with regard to the incident. As a result, one officer resigned from the department prior to disciplinary action being taken, a second officer was terminated and a third received a 3 day suspension from duty without pay.

Per Bossier City Police Department policy regarding personnel matters, details of the investigation including the names of the officers are not being released by the department.
