BCPD swears in new officers, jailers

Seven new members of the Bossier City Police Department officially joined the ranks Monday morning during a swearing in ceremony at the Bossier City Public Safety Training Center.

Chief of Police Shane McWilliams administered oaths to Police Officers Brandon Bailey, Travis Coker, Fernando Ortiz, Morgan Palmer, Russel Sarpy and Jailers Christian Castillo and Joshua Stewart with family members, friends and department personnel in attendance.

Officers Bailey, Coker, Ortiz and Palmer along with Jailers Castillo and Stewart completed their 12-week state Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certification instruction this week at the Bossier Sheriff’s North Louisiana Criminal Justice Academy.  Officer Sarpy joins the BCPD as certified law enforcement officer from other agency.

The group will now enter a four week long departmental training program to learn the policies and procedures of the Bossier City Police Department. Once that training is complete, the new officers will spend three months riding patrol with Field Training Officers before being assigned to the patrol division while the jailers will undergo an addition 3 months of training in the city jail before getting their permanent assignments.
