Benton faces district rival in state softball tournament

The Benton Lady Tigers face a familiar foe in the Class 4A quarterfinals today in the FastPitch 56 State Softball Tournament in Sulphur.
Benton (19-10), the No. 7 seed, takes on No. 15 North DeSoto (16-9) at 6 p.m. at Frasch Park.
Benton and North DeSoto shared the District 1-5A title. The Lady Griffins won 10-2 in their only head-to-head meeting March 13.
In that game, North DeSoto freshman E.C. Delafield limited the Lady Tigers to five hits. The Lady Griffins got 10 hits off two Benton pitchers.
North DeSoto pulled off one of the biggest upsets in any class when it defeated No. 2 Teurlings Catholic   1-0 in the second round.
Benton takes a 10-game winning streak into the game.
The Lady Tigers defeated Franklinton 11-0 in the first round and then rallied for a 3-2 victory over Assumption in the second.
The North DeSoto-Benton winner faces the winner of No. 3 Vandebilt Catholic and No. 22 Rayne in Saturday’s 1 p.m. semifinals.
The championship game is scheduled for 7.
