Benton, Haughton, Rusheon top district standings

The Benton Lady Tigers seventh-grade team completed the first half of district play undefeated with a 37-15 victory over Cope Monday at Cope.

In other seventh-grade games, Greenacres topped Rusheon 35-7 and Elm Grove defeated Haughton.

Benton leads the district with a 5-0 mark. Greenacres is second at 4-1. Haughton and Rusheon are tied for the eighth-grade district lead after the first half.

In Monday’s games, Haughton edged Elm Grove 38-37 in overtime, Rusheon defeated Greenacres 31-16 and Cope dropped Benton 28-12.

At Cope, Emily Ward scored 20 points to lead the Lady Tigers seventh-graders to the victory. Morgan Bradford had eight points and numerous rebounds.

Emily Francis led Cope with four points.

Chloe Walker tossed in 13 point and Courtney Walker added five for the victorious Cope eighth-graders.

Mackenzie McEntee paced Benton with eight points, and Brittney McLelland added four.

At Greenacres, Traciona Russell and Ladayjah Means led the Lady Mustangs seventh-graders with eight points each. Zakiya Johnson added six.

Mel Lewis and Karla Myles combined for six for Rusheon.

Crishawnna Jones poured in 11 points and Destiny Thomas nine in the Rusheon eighth-grade team’s victory.

Samone Thomas paced Greenacres with six points and Destinee Miller had four.

At Elm Grove, Natavia Anthony scored 16 points to lead the Lady Eagles seventh-grade team to the win. Madeline Grunewald added eight.

Keeana Barber hit two big 3-pointers, including the game-winner in overtime, for Haughton’s eighth-grade team. She finished with 10 points.

Chamapagne Dennis led the Lady Bucs with 18.

Dionisha Wilson led Elm Grove with 17 points. Tiana Harris had nine.
