Benton, Parkway, Bossier post victories as season gets underway

Benton, Parkway and Bossier posted victories in season openers Monday and Tuesday.

Benton defeated Evangel Christian 14-4 in six innings Tuesday at Evangel.

In Monday openers, Parkway edged Ouachita Christian 3-2 in 11 innings at home, and Bossier defeated Huntington 12-2 at Rusheon.

Haughton dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Alexandria on the road.

Airline’s opener against West Monroe was postponed.

At Evangel, the Tigers scored eight runs in the top of the sixth. They took advantage of six walks, doubles by Tanner Timms and Clint Lasiter and a single by Cade Scott.

Scott went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Lasiter had two hits and two RBI.

Cade Paddy went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Timms went 2-3. Dane Stearns had a double. Cameron Ross had three RBI.

Landon Joyner, the Outstanding Pitcher on the 2019 All-Parish team, allowed four hits and struck out six in four innings to pick up the win.

Trenton Lape scored the winning run on Trenton DeFatta’s two-out single in Parkway’s victory. Hunter Holder had a one-out single. Lape followed with a single. Holder was thrown out trying to reach third, but Lape was able to take second on the throw.

DeFatta went 3-for-5. Peyton Lewis had two doubles. Hayden Knotts had two hits, including a double.

Lewis pitched the final 4 2/3 innings for the win. He allowed just one hit, walked only one and struck out eight.

At Rusheon, Coleman Beeson led the Bearkats at the plate and on the mound.

He went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. Beeson struck out 15 in six innings while allowing five hits.

Caden White went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Andre Green had two RBI.

At Alexandria, the Trojans scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a single with no outs.

Caleb Green’s two-RBI single in the fourth gave the Bucs a 2-1 lead. Carson Gilmore also had a double.

Haughton’s Chase Keith and Jacob Hernandez allowed just three hits combined.

The second annual Nathan George Louisiana Texas Shootout begins Thursday and runs through Saturday,

Parkway is the host school but games will also be played at Benton, Haughton and Evangel.
