Benton PD to host free safety event Oct. 23

The Benton Police Department will be giving away free Project ChildSafe gun locks at Brookshires in Benton, Thursday October the 23rd, 2014 at 4:00pm. Officers will also be demonstrating the proper way to secure a firearm with the gun locks.

ChildSafe1In addition to the free gun lock giveaway, the Benton Police Department will be distributing literature on the following: Domestic Violence, Drug Awareness, Bullying, Natural/Manmade Disasters, and educational coloring books for children that include Bicycle Safety, Safety in the Home, and Stranger Awareness.

Chief Charles Pilkinton says that only through a combined effort, can we expect to have success and protect our most precious resource, our children, for the future of our community.

“The law is a deterrent, but education is our best protection,” he said. “Problems cannot be solved, and lives cannot be saved by law enforcement alone; it takes the active support and resources of the entire community.”

Pilkinton would like to express his sincere thanks and appreciation to Brookshires Food and Pharmacy Store for their generosity and commitment to this project.
