BOSSIER CITY – Bernardine Bartek, loving and cherished wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, at age 92, died on March 29, 2014. “Bernie” was born Bernardine Kremel on September 30, 1921, to parents of Czech descent, Frank and Veronica Kremel, in Cistern, Texas. On October 6, 1941, she married Joe J. Bartek with whom she spent fifty years of a happy, holy marriage until he passed away in October, 1995. They served together for 28 years in U.S. Air Force assignments in the United States and overseas before he retired as a Lt. Colonel in Bossier City in 1967.
They were devoted to each other and to their four children, all of whom survive them — Linda Faye Boyle, Ronald Joseph Bartek, Karen Rae Maxwell (her constant caregiver for the final fifteen years of her life) and Mary Lyn Dixon. She is also survived by six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and her loving brother, Frankie Kremel. She was a wonderfully sweet and loving mother and will continue to be cherished by her children. “Nanny” will be deeply missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and “Aunt Bennie” will always be remembered by her many nieces and nephews.
She was a talented seamstress and made beautiful clothing for herself and her daughters. Everyone in her extended family enjoyed her great cooking and delicious Czech pastries and all were immediately uplifted by her joyful, infectious laugh. After a lifetime of faithfully and lovingly serving her family and the Lord, she was laid to her heavenly rest at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
