BOSSIER CITY – Services for Billy Joe “B.J.” Thomas, 85, will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Josh Best and Kelly Spencer officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Hill Crest Funeral Home.
B.J. was born on December 15, 1927 in Springtown, Texas to Ben and Nancy Thomas and passed away on November 16, 2013 in Shreveport, Louisiana surrounded by his loving family. B.J. graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1950 and was a Gospel preacher. He was a member of the Bossier Church of Christ where he was the minister from 1970-1996. He loved his brothers and sisters in Christ. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and pawpaw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gary Joe Thomas and son-in-law Larry Fortner. B.J. is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Thomas, daughters Marilyn Greenhouse (Jack), Sherri Pool (Mike), Jean Thorne (Randy) and daughter -in-law, Dottie Solesbee Thomas, grandchildren, Capt. Joe Kyle Thomas U.S.M.C., Lauren Emily Fortner, and Chase Thomas Fortner, great-grandchildren, Braxton Riley Thomas and Channing Rhys Thomas.
Honoring B.J. as pallbearers will be Chase Fortner, David Youngblood, Cody Carter, James Brantly, Patrick Prothro and Monroe Elkins. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Capt. Joe Kyle Thomas U.S.M.C, Braxton Riley Thomas and Channing Rhys Thomas.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Brady, Bossier Internal Medicine, as well as the nurses and staff of Pilgrim Manor for their devotion and loving care for our pawpaw.
