Tubbs Hardware and Rental has long been recognized as the “go to” place in this area for unique Cajun and Mardi Gras shoppers. On February 26, 2022 from 10 a.m. to noon, Tubbs hosts a book signing for Bossier City’s own author and illustrator Al Bohl. “Tales from the Bayou: A Simple Cure” is his newest book. This fully illustrated chapter book targets elementary school age readers.
This first story in the planned series is about the mischievous Renny Raccoon who must find a cure when he is afflicted with the “hicc-u-mups!” Naturally, the cure is anything but simple.
Retirement for Bossier City’s Al Bohl couldn’t be more fun and fulfilling. In the time he’s been retired from being an art instructor for the Talented Arts Program for the Bossier Parish School system he’s written and illustrated two books and re-released three others.
“The great thing about being an artist is that you don’t ever have to stop creating until you just can’t pick up the pencil anymore,” says Al Bohl.
The book is part of a small publishing company that he is developing with his son Aaron. The imprint is called Owl & Bowl Press. “We were really looking for an outlet to share our family’s creative talents,” said Aaron. “With the opportunities available today to self-publish through companies like Amazon, it’s a great time to be a writer!” said Aaron. “The main thing you lose with self-publishing is access to established distribution and promotion, but we are doing a full-court-press to promote our brand of books within the region and beyond,” he added. “It’s been excellent to watch my dad finally bring his Tales from the Bayou stories to life. It just goes to show that you never lose the creative spirit!”
Information about Al Bohl’s 50 years of work as an author, artist, minister, educator and filmmaker is available at his website www.albohl.com. The signing will take place at Tubb’s Bossier store at 615 Benton Road.
