The Bossier City Charter Commission convened its inaugural public town hall meeting at Hooter Park MLK Community Center on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

These town hall meetings provide an opportunity for residents to voice their opinions, express concerns, and suggest potential changes or enhancements to the Bossier City Charter. Through direct engagement with the community, the Commission aims to ensure that the charter accurately reflects the needs and aspirations of Bossier City residents.

One attendee at the meeting, Ruby Fisher, emphasized the need for a business continuity plan in the charter. “I believe that one of the essential elements for inclusion in this charter is a provision for business continuity. When one administration transitions out, and another steps in, there should be a defined timeframe for ensuring the smooth transition of responsibilities and operations,” Fisher stated.

Another attendee, David Crockett, advocated for a competitive process for local bonds. “I firmly believe that all bonds should be competitively bid, as recommended by the Louisiana Bond Commission,” Crockett asserted.

The two remaining public meetings of the charter commission are scheduled for February 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Shady Grove Community Center, and February 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Bossier Instructional Center (BIC).

For those unable to attend the town hall meetings, the Commission has made available a feedback form accessible via the provided link: http://tinyurl.com/CharterFeedbackForm

This online form will enable interested individuals to contribute their input and ideas remotely.

The Bossier City Charter Commission comprises Bossier City residents: Shane Cheatham, Preston Friedley, Lee A. Jeter, Sr., David Johnson, Sandra Morehart, Julianna Parks, Panderina Soumas, Vicky Whitman, and Lisa Wilhite. Additionally, Bossier City Attorney (Charles Jacobs) and Bossier City Chief Administrative Officer (Amanda Nottingham) will serve as non-voting members of the Charter Review Commission.
