During its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the Bossier City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to allow the sale of packaged beverages of high- and low-alcohol content and packaged wine for consumption off the premises on Sundays during designated hours.

“This ordinance in front of us today is strictly a financial ordinance. There are so many tax dollars out there that we are not collecting. All of us up here know that it takes tax dollars to keep this city running, expanding, and providing the citizens of Bossier City with outstanding police and fire protection and other services. We’re leveling the playing field because we have so many tax dollars going over the bridge. That is the reason for this ordinance. It’s not to encourage people to buy more alcohol or anything like that. It’s part of the fiscal responsibility we have here,” said Brian Hammons, Bossier City councilman for District 1.

During the June 18 meeting, the Bossier City Council approved the following:

  • Adoption of an ordinance approving a Conditional Use Approval for the retail sale of high- and low-content alcohol for on-premise consumption and to modify and extend the hours of operation to 2:00 a.m. at a proposed pool hall/bar, Pool Hub, located at 2790 Shed Road Suite E, Bossier City, Louisiana.
  • Adoption of an ordinance to eliminate an Equipment Operator I position in the Streets and Drainage Department for Public Works and amend the General Fund and Public Services and Sanitation fund budgets to transfer funds from the Streets and Drainage Department to the Streets and Grass Cutting Department for salaries and benefits.
  • Adoption of an ordinance authorizing Mayor Thomas H. Chandler to execute the attached joint Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the City of Shreveport and the Caddo-Bossier Port Commission.
