Three Bossier City golfers helped Louisiana win the 2016 Junior River Cup at Diamondhead Country Club last weekend in Diamondhead, Miss.
Carter Jurkovich, Ethan Dial and Eli Hill were members of Team Louisiana, which dominated Team Mississippi 32 1/2-7 1/2.
The Junior River Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event with four-ball, foursome and singles competition. The victory was the first for Team Louisiana since the event was established in 2011.
“I’m extremely proud of the way our team competed and represented our state with class,” Team Louisiana captain Logan Ray said in a report on the Louisiana Golf Association’s website. “The kids had a blast and made some great memories. Junior golf in Louisiana continues to trend in the right direction, and we were able to showcase that… Thanks to Mississippi for the hospitality.”
Jurkovich teamed with Nicholas Arcement of Matthews for a 1-up win in the four-ball competition as Team Louisiana swept all 10 matches. Hill and Jay Mendell of Lafayette won their match 5 and 3. Dial and Connor Cassano of Lafayette won 5 and 3.
Jurkovich and Zachary Barrios of Slidell won their foursome match 3 and 1. Hill and Dial teamed up for a 4 and 3 victory.
Team Louisiana took a 19-1 lead into Sunday’s singles matches. Dial won his match 6 and 5, and Hill won his 4 and 3. Jurkovich took his match the distance before losing 1-up.
