Bossier City’s first responders once again brought holiday cheer to local children with the annual Heroes and Helpers Toy Shopping Christmas Event. Formerly known as “Shop with a Cop,” this heartwarming gathering took place Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, at 6 p.m. at Target Bossier City, located at 2735 Beene Boulevard.
Sponsored by the Bossier City Police Union Local 645, the event featured enthusiastic participation from the Bossier City Police Department and the Bossier City Fire Department. Together, these public safety teams created a memorable evening for nearly 60 children, each enjoying a $150 shopping spree at Target.
“Doing this for the kids—it’s the happiest of times for us. This is my favorite day of the year. To see the smile on these kids’ faces is priceless,” said Shawn Pouerier of the Bossier City Police Union.
The Heroes and Helpers event is more than just gift-giving. It provides officers with a unique opportunity to connect with local youth, demonstrating kindness, care, and a commitment to their well-being. By engaging with children in a festive and positive setting, officers aim to foster trust and show that they are there not only in times of need but also to make a meaningful difference in their community.
This cherished tradition wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of community sponsors, including:
- Target Bossier City
- Ivan Smith Furniture
- Big Robbie’s Billiards
- Michael Lambright Shelter Insurance
- Anderson Motor Company
- Individual sponsors who contributed to the event
For many children, this special night provides Christmas joy that might not have been possible otherwise. The kindness and generosity of the event’s sponsors and participants reflect the true spirit of the season, bringing hope and happiness to families across Bossier City.
