After more than three decades of distinguished service to his community and country, Captain Joseph Thomerson will officially retire from the Bossier City Police Department (BCPD) this November.
Captain Thomerson, who joined the department in 1994, has served with honor across numerous divisions during his 31-year career. His assignments included Patrol, Detectives, Patrol Administration, Specialized Units, and work as a Field Training Officer—roles through which he mentored younger officers and helped shape the department’s culture of professionalism and excellence.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Captain Thomerson served in the United States Air Force, where he retired after 31 years and six months of military service. His dedication to both country and community stands as a rare and commendable example of public service.
“Captain Thomerson has been a true asset to this department,” said Chief of Police Daniel Haugen in a formal statement. “His legacy of leadership, mentorship, and professionalism will continue to impact the Bossier City Police Department for years to come.”

As he prepares to close this chapter, the Bossier City Police Department extends heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Captain Thomerson for a well-earned retirement.
