As the holiday season approaches, Bossier City is bustling with events, milestones, and plans for the future. In this week’s edition of the Bossier City Spotlight, we bring you updates from City Hall, highlights from community events, and a look ahead to the close of 2024.

A Year of Triumphs and Challenges

With the year coming to an end, Mayor Tommy Chandler is preparing to reflect on the highs and lows of 2024. In next week’s Spotlight, he’ll share his perspective on the challenges faced and the triumphs achieved over the past year.

One triumph stands out: the recent matchup between L.S.U. and Grambling State University women’s basketball teams in Bossier City, which drew a sold-out crowd. The game was particularly special for locals, as Parkway High School graduate Mykaylah Williams showcased her skills as a starter for L.S.U. Williams, who led the Parkway Lady Panthers to a state championship in her senior year, hit a game-saving shot last week against Stanford, propelling the Tigers to an overtime victory.

Improved Safety at City Hall

The newly reconstructed Bossier City Municipal Complex is now open, boasting enhanced security measures to protect the public. Visitors to City Hall will now enter through a single, secured entry point, complete with scanners and oversight by a City Marshal.

Mayor Chandler described the upgrades as a “necessary and worthwhile investment,” emphasizing his commitment to citizen safety. The project also included the installation of advanced cameras and other security features. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting, attended by Mayor Chandler and City Council members, marked the official opening on Tuesday.

Exciting Job Opportunities at LIVE Casino

The community celebrated a major economic boost with a job fair hosted by Louisiana LIVE Casino, which is set to create over 750 new jobs in the local workforce. Despite rainy weather, more than 2,000 applicants turned out to apply for positions ranging across departments.

Mayor Chandler expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “No matter how you cut it… That’s good news, and it is what our community needs.” Representatives from LIVE were equally impressed by the turnout and are eager to integrate new employees into their team. The casino aims to become the region’s premiere entertainment destination.

Holiday Festivities in Full Swing

The holiday spirit is alive in Bossier City, with several festive events on the horizon:

  • Shop Til You Drop Craft Show: Returning to the Bossier Civic Center on Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14.
  • Santa in Blue: A cherished event for Barksdale families, also taking place at the Civic Center on December 14, celebrating the spirit of giving and Christmas joy.
  • Heroes and Helpers: Hosted last Friday by the Bossier City Police Union Local 645 at Target on Airline Drive, this heartwarming event brought police officers, firefighters, and local youth together to share in the joy of Christmas by providing toys to families in need.

Looking Ahead

As the Spotlight continues through the holiday season, upcoming editions will reflect on 2024 and provide safety tips for the New Year. From all of us at City Hall, we encourage you to enjoy the festivities while celebrating responsibly.
