Bossier City Spotlight: Thank you for voting “yes”

Hello everyone and “Thank You” for reading the “SPOTLIGHT.” I hope by the time you read this the very important propositions 1& 2 would have passed and the City will be able to continue to provide for the needs of our Public Safety Agencies.. primarily Fire and Police. So please accept this as “Thank You” to those Citizens that voted to Support Public Safety.

It is said that April flowers bring May Showers and as we start the month of May that appears to be true. Rain is forecasted for the better part of this week up to Wednesday and possibly beyond.. so I guess we say Welcome to the May showers.

Mayor Chandler and Mayor Arceneaux did a joint proclamation for the annual “Light of Hope Ceremony.” This ceremony is held each year to recognize those youth that have either suffered or died due to youth violence and Child abuse. The program is sponsored by Volunteers for Youth Justice, and supported by CADA it was held at the Harbor on Knight street. The speaker for this occasion was Juvenile Judge Ree Casey Jones.

Bossier City Animal Control held a rabies and adoption clinic over the weekend. These services are provided for the care and well being of animals in our area..

At the City Council meeting this week the Bossier Fire Dept. members that participated in the “Battle of the Badges” boxing tournament were recognized. There was a community meeting held at Barksdale Baptist Church to inform citizens of the planning and progress of the Jimmie Davis Bridge project. There had been a number of questions regarding this project and DOTD and other stakeholders were on hand to answer and update citizens.

Once again we say.. “Go Tigers” as L.S.U. women’s gymnastics team won the 2024 Women’s Gymnastics National Championship. L.S.U. continues to make Louisiana proud.

The meeting that was scheduled with Senator John Kennedy was postponed and is to be rescheduled.

Construction at City Hall is on schedule and going well, citizens will have to get used to entering on the Beckett St. side of the building. The Fire Dept. is preparing to hire new firefighters and the Police Dept. is in the process of seeking applicants also.

KSLA had a very successful job fair Wednesday May 24th, at the Bossier Civic Center.. there were lots of companies represented and many job seekers attended. KSLA appreciated the interest and support and they look forward to doing another job fair again soon.

Bossier Schools will take over the Civic Center this week as they celebrate the annual I-3 Art Expo. This is the time when Bossier Parish Schools once again get the opportunity to display all of the wonderful, creative and exciting things that Bossier Parish Students are doing in the area of Art, Poetry, Drama and more. The event will be going on this week so make time in your schedule to come and check it out.

Bossier Parks and Recreation is busy with adult league softball and getting ready for the Little League World Series which will be coming to Bossier City during the latter part of July…
