Bossier City police arrested a husband and wife over the weekend on criminal charges after their infant son tested positive for cocaine.
Roderick C. Lockett, 47, and Aretha Lockett, 46, both of Bossier City, were arrested Sunday for second degree cruelty to a juvenile after medical staff at Willis Knighton Bossier contacted the Bossier City Police Department early Sunday morning regarding the couple’s 11-month old son. Police learned Aretha Lockett had taken the child to the hospital’s emergency room late Saturday night after he appeared to be lethargic. A medical test subsequently found the child had cocaine in his system.
Detectives say their investigation found the couple has admitted to smoking crack cocaine and the child was exposed to the drug due to the actions of his parents.
The child was subsequently transferred Sunday to Willis Knighton South for treatment. He was cleared to be released from the hospital this afternoon and will be placed in the custody of child protective services.
Detectives booked the Lockett’s into the Bossier City Jail. Both were later transferred to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility. Bond is set at $50,000 each.
