Bossier deputy terminated following arrest

Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington has terminated a Bossier deputy following his arrest for mishandling a case involving a juvenile while serving as a school resource officer.

Michael Freeman, 45, was arrested on one count each of Obstruction of Justice and Malfeasance in Office following an investigation that began in July.

Bossier Sheriff’s detectives were made aware of this case as they investigated a sexual assault involving a then 14-year-old female juvenile who had a sexual relationship with a 20-year-old male.  Isaias Duron Jr., 21, of the 300 block of Rubicon Road, Benton, was arrested by Bossier Sheriff’s detectives on July 27 on charges of Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile.

In February, Freeman, who at the time was working as a school resource officer at Benton High School, learned that the 14-year-old and the 20-year-old had sent and received nude photos on their cell phones and were also sexually engaged.  Freeman failed to report the incident and mishandled evidence that later resulted in the arrest of Duron.

Freeman, who was employed with the Bossier Sheriff’s Office since 2010, was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility Thursday morning with a $2,000 bond.
