Red River Parish — On February 9, 2016, at 06:45 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 1 about one mile north of LA Highway 177, that claimed the life of a Coushatta man.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford Truck driven by 29-year-old Joseph Miller of Bossier City  was traveling south on LA 1 when, for reasons still under investigation, he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a north bound 1998 Pontiac Sunfire driven by 58-year-old Carl Mancil of Coushatta.

Both drivers were restrained at the time of the crash, but still sustained life threatening injuries.  Mancil did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner.  Miller was airlifted to University Health Medical Center in Shreveport and remains in critical condition.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash, but toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.  The cause of this crash remains under investigation.
