Bossier Parish athletes honored for academic achievement

Bossier Parish athletes achieved a lot on the playing fields and courts during the winter sports season.
They also did very well in the classroom.
Fourteen parish athletes were named to LHSAA/Exxon All-Academic composite (all classes, divisions) teams in their respective sports.
To make a composite team, a senior athlete’s six- semester GPA must be one of the 18 highest in all seven classifications.
All 14 All-Academic composite team members from Bossier Parish posted 4.0 averages.
Benton’s Shelby Plunkett, the MVP on the 2013 girls soccer team,  was a composite selection.
Other composite selections in girls soccer were Carol Thompson and Alison Lockhart of Airline; Madeline Wheelahan, Kaleigh Newman and Haley Smith of Parkway; and Kayla Laws and Bridget Brown of Benton.
Plunkett and Wheelahan were first-team All-Parish selections this season.
Composite selections in boys soccer were Robert Spraggins and Collin Jimes of Airline; and Tracey Stephens and Blake Bertrand of Parkway.
Airline’s Katelyn Pilcher (girls basketball) and Parkway’s Carol Cash (girls powerlifting) were also composite selections.
Several parish athletes were named All-Academic in their respective classes or divisions. Composite selections are automatically on class and division teams.
Bossier’s Devonte Hall, the two-time MVP on the All-Parish boys basketball team, made the Class 3A boys team with a 3.6875 average.
Parkway’s Rob Harper (3.8367) and Airline’s Austin Brannon (3.9518) made the Class 5A boys basketball team.
Making girls basketball class teams were Taylor Gatson (3.691), Jasmyn Carswell (3.6938) and Destiney Wesley (3.6530) or Airline; Brittany Robinett (3.8776) of Haughton; and Kylie Moore (3.9583), Megan Fream (3.8462) and Madi Sessions (3.8333) of Benton.
Carswell, Robinett and Fream were all All-Parish first-team selections.
Division All-Academic selections in boys soccer were Jacob Mainiero (3.9592), JJ Zavalydrigaa (3.6042); Nick Rizzo (3.5265) and Ian Hill (3.5106) of Airline; Matthew Scotten of Parkway (3.500); Benny Broadway (3.6136) and John Tomb (3.5102) of Haughton; and Dillon Rogers (3.9592) and Bailey Grimes (3.8750) of Benton.
Rogers was the MVP on the All-Parish boys soccer team. Broadway was a first-team selection.
Division selections on the girls soccer team were Jordan Travis (3.960), Madi Morris (3.8696 and Claire Reisor (3.500) of Airline; and Benton’s Sessions.
Benton Division II 152-pound state champion Andre’ Dean (3.6863)  and Bossier’s Chris Hall (3.5208) were division selections on the wrestling team.
